Cochran, Morse take home SCL honors Sunday Feb 26, 2017 at 5:30 PM Feb 26, 2017 at 5:30 PM Cascade Christian senior center Carson Cochran was named the Southern Cascade League player of the year and the Challengers' Brian Morse was recognized as SCL coach of the year after recent voting. Fourth-ranked Cascade Christian (23-4) finished 8-0 during conference play. The 6-foot-4 Cochran averaged 15.4 points on 61 percent shooting with 8.5 rebounds for the Challengers, who have won 10 of the last 12 league crowns. Tyler Cochran, Joel McLemore, Ben Dunn and Kyle Reece also made the SCL team for the Challengers. St. Mary's Gavin Rajagopal, Joe Johnson, Bryce Bramscher and Travis Danielson earned a spot on the list, as did Rogue River's Aaron Hansen and Derek Pratt. Bramscher and Dunn were the SCL co-defensive players of the year. On the girls side, Cascade Christian's Emma Bennion, Ibixica Alvarez and Adrien Birmingham were named SCL all-stars, along with Cascade Christian's Emily Stephens and Abbey Alexander and Rogue River's Jesse Langfield and Maddie McKown. Bennion was chosen as the SCL defensive player of the year.
