COLLEGE SOFTBALL Raiders hand Eagles first loss in split Comment By SOU Sports Information MailTribune.com By SOU Sports Information Posted Mar. 3, 2015 at 7:07 PM Updated Mar 3, 2015 at 7:09 PM By SOU Sports Information Posted Mar. 3, 2015 at 7:07 PM Updated Mar 3, 2015 at 7:09 PM » Social News IRVINE, Calif. — The Southern Oregon University softball team ended eighth-ranked Concordia-Irvine’s 17-game win streak Tuesday, bouncing back from a 1-0 extra-inning loss with a 5-4 win in nonleague play. Kelsey Randall went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI and Tyler Burke hit the go-ahead, two-run double in the win, helping Sydney White to a decision after she pitched three scoreless frames. SOU went to 18-8 overall with a home doubleheader coming up at noon Saturday against 10th-ranked Simpson. Concordia is 17-1. In the opener, Eagles pitcher Brittani McGue won a pitchers’ duel with SOU's Brianne Craig. McGue’s no-hitter was broken up by an Alexa Gonzalez single in the sixth inning, but she went all eight innings, her only other blemishes being two free passes, with 12 strikeouts. Craig went the distance, too, allowing four hits with six strikeouts and one walk in 7 2/3 innings. The teams went to an international tiebreaker in the eighth — meaning both started with a runner on second base — and Ashley Miller was bunted over to third and scored the winning run on Megan Feuerstein’s sacrifice fly. SOU got its bats going with eight hits in Game 2. Randall put the Raiders on the board in the third — hitting a one-out single, stealing two bases and scoring on an error. The Raiders went up 5-0 with four runs in the fourth. Kristin Ahern reached on an error before Ally Painter and Cortney Nolan both singled to load the bases with one out. That’s when Burke doubled to left field for two runs, and Randall’s groundout and Gonzalez’s single up the middle brought home two more. Home runs by Jasmin Dresser and Lauren Rodriguez cut the lead to one, but Cheyenne Bricker closed the door. Only two of the four runs she allowed in four innings were earned. White gave up three hits in her start. Gonzalez had two hits and Randall recorded a third steal.
