The driver was not injured in the crash, which was reported to Jackson County Fire District 5 Station 2 at 4:24 p.m. Monday, Captain Bryan Dorris said. When paramedics arrived the passenger was deceased, he said. Dorris declined to say whether the passenger was male or female. The accident occurred between on and off ramps near Exit 6 of I-5, which leads to Callahan's Mountain Lodge and the access road to the Mt. Ashland Ski Area, officials said. The accident remains under investigation by Oregon State Police, Dorris said. He said people passing by stopped to help before paramedics could arrive and their assistance was appreciated. Dorris said he doesn't know what caused the accident, but he advised drivers to use caution on the Siskiyou Pass, especially as fall and winter weather brings slippery conditions to the area.
