Email letters of no more than 150 words to [email protected].  Keep up coverage Thank you for the Sept. 4 article on The Dakota Access Pipeline, DAPL. National coverage is greatly needed. Please follow up! Despite major developments, there is little in the papers. On Sept. 3, DAPL bulldozed a historic graveyard. Twelve hours before, site documentation was submitted in court. DAPL leapfrogged miles from their previous day’s construction to avoid blocking of their devastating destruction. DAPL security was waiting, with attack dogs and mace, when nonviolent protesters stumbled on the scene. Six were bitten, one child hospitalized, dozens maced. No security were charged with crimes. Protesters fastened to turned-off machinery were charged with felony reckless endangerment. Violence against protesters and press is escalating. Journalists are being arrested, charged with "engaging in a riot" and "criminal trespass." Journalists were maced, cameras seized, while filming violence and mass arrests on nonviolent citizens. Women were stripped, standing naked for extended time, one shivering overnight in jail. This abuse was with the complicity of Governor Dalrymple and Morton County police. The $3.8 billion DAPL would cross four states in America's grain belt, a spill endangering water supplies nationwide. The unpenalized intimidation of journalists threatens freedom of the press. Please resume covering this nationally important issue. Ariel Elicia Israea Ashland No help for veteran In this political year I watch in amazement and listen with awe as many of my fellow Oregon citizens extol the fine qualities of our senators and congressman. I am especially fascinated by all the veterans with claims of how much they have been helped. I, as a 100 percent combat wounded veteran, have contacted our senators and congressman seeking help several months ago. I am a double amputee in need of particular stump sox. I have tried to obtain these sox for many months from the Denver VA distribution center. I am always told they are on "back order." I contacted our leaders asking for help. I have yet to have my letter asking for help acknowledged in any way. Great help for a veteran in need? He is the best example of a concerned, caring person I know, His work on the School Board and as Ashland mayor demonstrated how one person can really make a difference. I totally support his candidacy for Senate District 3. His common sense and lifetime of Oregon experience will help us navigate through the important issues that face us all in the future.
