Mail Tribune 100: May 13, 1916 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 13, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 13, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News May 13, 1916 DRY LAND DREDGE FOR THE APPLEGATE A dredge that will handle 1,000 yards of dirt a day — known as a dry land dredge — will soon be installed on the Applegate below Ruch on the Ray property. It will be the first dry land dredge to be operated in this region. It may be packed up and carted to any district desired. Charles A. Headson & Sons of Seattle have written to W. J. Hills in this city, that they will soon be ready to install it. They also ask Mr. Hills as to the facilities here for obtaining woodwork and ironwork, such as it will be necessary to find in a planing mill or foundry. They suggest the possibility that they may undertake to establish an important branch of their business in this city to handle the dredging operations in southern Oregon and northern California. SOCIETY A very pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mrs. Normile, South Newton street, when the Free Methodist society and friends of Rev. J. E. Bradley and wife met for a social farewell in appreciation of their service for the past three years. A short program was rendered and a timely address by Rev. J. W. Sharpe. Dainty refreshments of ice cream with crushed strawberries, cake and coffee were served. "Blessed Be the Tie That Binds" was sung with emotion, and very affectionate closing remarks were given by Rev. Bradley. Having been appointed to a charge in northern Washington, Rev. Bradley and family will leave Medford soon, much to the regret of their many friends. A musical and dramatic entertainment will be given at the Star theater by the pupils of St. Mary's academy, Friday evening, May 26. A beautiful Biblical drama, "Queen Esther," will be presented by the senior pupils under the direction of Ed Andrews and with the assistance of Mr. Andrews' quartet. The boys of the grades are enthusiastically preparing a gun drill and the minions will appear in a bright little sketch called "The Grandma's."
