The course goes out and back on the Rogue River Greenway. The half-marathon continues on North River Road and back. The half-marathon time limit is 3 hours. For details, see the race calendar at www.southernoregonrunners.com Sterling Mine Ditch Trail work party Saturday, Feb. 20: Siskiyou Upland Trails Association is looking for volunteers to help them reopen a long-closed section of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail and prepare for construction of two puncheon bridges. The group will meet at the Deming horse trailer parking area at 8:30 a.m. For detailed driving directions visit www.sutaoregon.org . If you have them, please bring loppers, a pruning saw or a tread tool such as a Pulaski, grubber or sturdy shovel. Bring water and whatever special snacks you like. SUTA will supply additional trail tools, home-baked snacks and lunch. If you plan to go, email [email protected] so they can plan the work party and food. Crater Lake snowshoe hikes Free, ranger-guided snowshoe walks are offered at 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through April. The walks last about two hours and cover a mile of moderately strenuous terrain through forests and meadows along Crater Lake's rim. No previous snowshoe experience is required, and snowshoes are provided free of charge. To sign up, call the park visitor center at 541-594-3100. Cross-country ski outings Wednesdays and Saturdays: The Southern Oregon Nordic Club holds group ski outings Wednesdays and Saturdays at various locations, weather permitting. For details, see http://new.onc.org/sonc/ Klamath Basin Birding Trip Friday, Feb. 26: Northwest Nature Shop employee Terence Philippe will lead an all-day outing to the Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge to look for bald eagles, rough-legged hawks, ferruginous hawks, golden eagles and waterfowl too numerous to list. Meet at Northwest Nature Shop, 154 Oak St., Ashland, at 7:30 a.m. to carpool. Birders of all skill levels are welcome. Expect cold weather. Bring binoculars, snacks and lunch. Cost is $40. Call 541-482-3241 to reserve a space. Adverse weather will cancel the outing. Lower Table Rock hike Saturday, Feb. 27: Molly Morison, stewardship coordinator with The Nature Conservancy, will discuss the fascinating and changing nature of vernal pools along with the plants and animals that live there. Hikers will learn about their unique adaptations and try to spot the tiny vernal pool fairy shrimp and other residents in these shallow pools. The three- to five-mile roundtrip hike follows a moderate-grade trail. The hike starts at 9 a.m. and will last three to five hours. Participants should dress for the weather and bring plenty of drinking water (no water source is available on site) and a lunch or snacks. Restrooms are available at both trailheads. Dogs, mountain bikes and OHVs are not allowed on the trail.Space is limited to 20 people. Call 541-618-2200 to reserve a spot. Rogue Valley Walkers Saturday, Feb. 27: 10K walk Jacksonville with a 5K option. For more information, call 541-582-2607 or see www.roguevalleywalkers.com . Agate Lake bird walk Wednesday, March 2: The Rogue Valley Audubon Society holds free bird walks at Agate Lake the first Wednesday of every month. The walks begin at 8:30 a.m. and end before noon. The slow-paced walk covers about 1.5 miles. Meet at the main parking area on the east side of the lake opposite the boat ramp. For details, see www.roguevalleyaudubon.org . Siskiyou Velo Club Every Saturday: Velo Melo meets at various places and rides about 20 miles at 11 to 13 mph. No one will be dropped. Call Ginny Jensen at 541-488-1398. Every Saturday: Siskiyou Velo Slo-Mo rides begin at various morning hours from different locations. Pace: 7 to 10 mph over 12 to 18 miles on mostly flat terrain. Call Ken Kelley at 541-857-6819. Every Saturday: Siskiyou Crank It Up rides begin at various morning hours from different locations; 20 to 30 miles. Pace 12 to 15 mph, varied terrain. No one will be dropped. Pace: 18+ mph over 50 to 65 miles on mostly hilly terrain. Call Dennis Cramer at 541-773-5804. Every Monday: Coffee rides begin at 10:30 a.m. at Colver Park in Phoenix and go to Jacksonville. Every Wednesday: Coffee rides begin at 11 a.m. at Rogue Valley Roasting Company in Ashland. Pace: 14 to 18+ mph with periodic pace lines over 35 to 60 miles with some hills.
