Mayben leads RiverDogs to win MEDFORD - Nate Mayben's clutch hitting led the Southern Oregon Riverdogs to a 5-4 win in nine innings against Weed and Sons in Amateur baseball action Wednesday at Miles Field. Mayben hit a two-out go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the Riverdogs' 12th win of the season. Mayben also started a fifth inning rally by belting a double to right-centerfield scoring Evan Wiesner. The Riverdogs scored three runs in the inning evaporating a 4-1 deficit. Jesse Stevenson relieved Brendan Holmes in the sixth inning and pitched four scoreless innings to register his first win of the season. Mayben went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs while Steve DeClerck had two base hits. Knute Parent hit two doubles and had one RBI for Weed and Sons, while Sean Escobar had three baseknocks and one RBI. The Riverdogs, 12-11, host the Portland Wildcats today at Miles Field. American Legion ASHLAND 12-5, KLAMATH UNION 9-6 - At Klamath Falls, the Ashland Pilots' 17-game win streak came to an end in the second game of an Area 4 American Legion A doubleheader. In the loss, the Pilots trailed 5-2 entering the seventh inning, but Bill Rowe ripped a three-run home run to tie it. The homer, his sixth, followed hits by Charles Dotterrer and Jayson Schroeder, a double play and Titus Weston being hit by a pitch. After the clout, Ashland's Mike Allen and Zach Miedeke started another uprising, but Kyle Puderbaugh's hard line drive was tracked down in right field to end the inning. Klamath scored the winner in the bottom of the frame. In the first game, Dotterrer won the game with a three-run homer in the seventh, capping a 3-for-5 effort. Ryan Decker was 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Rowe pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits and fanning six. Ashland is 17-2-1, including 11-1 in Area 4. SOUTH MEDFORD 15-4, KLAMATH UNION HAWKS 10-8 - At Klamath Falls, Kevin O'Shea went 3-for-5 with three RBI as the South Medford Colts won Game 1 of a doubleheader split with Klamath Union. Jeremy Frantz had two hits to go along with a team-high four RBI for the Colts (10-13). In the nightcap, Blake St. Onge led South with two hits, but Klamath Union scored six times in the fifth inning to seal the win.
