Resilient Cascade rallies to top Lost River CENTRAL POINT � Confidence wasn�t a problem for the Cascade Christian High volleyball team on Tuesday night. Not even when the Challengers faced 9-0 and 11-1 deficits in the second game of a Southern Cascade League match against Lost River at Scenic Middle School. Junior outside hitter Krystal Holtz hammered home three aces in the second game and had five aces on the night as the Challengers rallied for a 15-11, 16-14 victory. "These girls have a lot of heart and they showed it tonight," Cascade Christian coach Susan Gmur said. "Once we got on a roll there was no stopping us." Junior middle Kristin Salamone added four blocks in the second game while senior outside hitter Kelly Clarke contributed three digs, three aces and one block on the night. Lost River had a chance to win the last game, leading 14-13, but the Challengers tied it up and then Amy Roseberg served the final two points of the match. The victory improved Cascade Christian to 2-0 in the SCL and 8-1 overall. ST.MARY�S 11-15-15, BONANZA 15-1-6 � At St. Mary�s, the Crusaders overcame service and mental errors to beat Bonanza in a three- game conference match. St. Mary�s (11-3, 2-0 SCL) only served 68 percent in the first game, including seven missed serves and seven hitting errors. Senior Kristen Zielony was able to bring the Crusaders back with 14 straight service points including four aces in the second game. The Crusaders received great all-around team play to put Bonanza away in the final game. PHOENIX 15-15, ILLINOIS VALLEY 10-6 � At Cave Junction, Phoenix improved to 4-1 in Skyline play as outside hitters Sutton Jackson and April Darby notched eight and six kills respectively. Tiffany Ross added five kills and two blocks., while Kelly Meredith had four kills and three blocks. The Pirates are 9-2 overall. HENLEY 15-15, LAKEVIEW 5-7 � At Klamath Falls, No. 6 Henley dominated the state�s top-ranked Class 3A team and took over sole possession of first place in the Skyline Conference standings. Middle blocker Alice Myers racked up 14 kills and outside hitter Samantha Young added nine for the Hornets, who have won 12 of the past 15 conference titles. Henley also shut down Lakeview outsider hitter Jessica Childress with a strong block. Henley, winner of last weekend�s Sisters Tournament, improved to 16-0. ROGUE RIVER 6-15-15, MAZAMA 15-13-13 � At Klamath Falls, Rogue River missed only three serves in the match and received seven kills apiece from front row players Kelly Simmons and Emily Sutherland. Rogue River (9-10, 3-2 Skyline Conference) trailed 8-7 in the decisive third game when sophomore Madi Biggs served four straight points. The Chiefs never trailed again. With the score tied at 13, Becky Grinde served the final two points for the match. Ashley Artoff had 19 assists for the Chiefs. NORTH VALLEY 15-15, HIDDEN VALLEY 3-6 � At Merlin, freshman middle Elaina Renius had four kills and two blocks and junior middle Whitney Coston added four kills to pace North Valley to the Skyline Conference victory. The Knights, now 2-3 in Skyline play, received a fine serving effort from Ashley Schilling, who served six straight points in Game 1. Nicole Roberts added 10 digs for the winners. PROSPECT 15-15, HOSANNA 3-6 � At Prospect, the Cougars received dominant performances from Sarah Gordon and Christina Eamons to cruise past Hosanna. Gordon went 9-for-9 from the service line with two aces. Eamons went 11-for-12 from the service line and added three kills.
