The seventh-ranked Raiders bolted to a 24-0 halftime lead, possessing the ball 24 out of the first 30 minutes. "We stayed pretty consistent throughout," Southern Oregon coach Jeff Olson said. "We’ve had some peaks and valleys, but today we stayed on an even keel." The Raiders outgained the unranked Lights 455 yards to 260 and ran 80 plays to 56 for Montana State-Northern (1-5). Southern Oregon (4-1) played without leading rusher Dusty McGrorty, who sprained a knee last week against Rocky Mountain. "With Dusty not going to play, we weren’t going to change our mind-set," said Olson. "We were operating on all cylinders." Junior quarterback Dan Woodward executed a balanced offense effectively and junior Brandon White capably filled in for McGrorty. Woodward completed 20-of-32 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns. "He (Woodward) was a good leader today," said Olson. "He threw the ball very well. It may have been the best game he’s played." The Raiders totaled 224 yards on the ground. White carried 19 times for a team-high 100 yards. The Raiders came up with two interceptions, only gave up one first down on the ground, had good special teams results and didn’t commit a turnover. "Today we just went out and played," said Olson. "They have a sophisticated offense and our guys handled it very well. All across the board, it was a complete game." Volleyball SOUTHERN OREGON 30-30-30, WARNER PACIFIC 15-14-25 — At Ashland, another dominating performance by junior All-American Kristina Matchett helped the 17th-ranked Southern Oregon team sweep Warner Pacific College in a Cascade Conference match at McNeal Pavilion. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Klamath Falls struck for 22 kills, including nine in Game 2, to help the second-place Raiders (14-3, 10-1) capture their 11th consecutive home victory and fifth straight overall. "I thought we played well overall, and Kristina picked us up when we had lulls in Games 2 and 3," Raider coach Paul Elliott said. "She has the ability to take over matches, and that’s exactly what she did tonight." The seventh-place Knights, who fell to 3-16 all-time against SOU, dropped to 4-10 overall and 3-8 in conference play. Southern Oregon raced to an 11-1 lead en route to the Game 1 rout. SOU put Game 2 away with a season-long 11-0 run highlighted by four Matchett winners. Matchett collected three more kills in SOU’s match-clinching 6-0 run in Game 3. Raider junior hitter Sara Tatom had nine kills, and junior April Lowe added a match-high 12 digs. Warner Pacific was paced by freshman middle Brandi Nunnally and junior hitter Jo’lene Bogle, who struck for eight kills each. SOU returns to action next Friday at Albertson College in Caldwell, Idaho.
