Jacksonville to christen new City Hall Friday Wednesday Oct 12, 2016 at 11:35 AM Oct 12, 2016 at 5:07 PM A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for Jacksonville's new City Hall, located in the historic 1883 county courthouse at 206 N. Fifth St., will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. City offices moved into the renovated building in July, and tours of the offices will be hosted by the town’s Belles and Beaus and city staff. Refreshments will be served. The courthouse was the seat of county government until 1927, when voters moved the seat to Medford. During the 1930s and 1940s, the courthouse was used for occasional dances and by civic groups such as Boy Scouts and the Grange. The Southern Oregon Historical Society took over the building in the 1950s and ran it as a museum until 2010. Jackson County gave the building to Jacksonville in fall 2012.  The renovation project cost about $875,000, about $105,000 less than the city borrowed for the project. The loan will be repaid from tax revenue generated by the city’s urban renewal district.
