Jolly, Hunter lead North to win North Medfords Scott Jolly was plenty visible against Ashland Saturday at Varsity Field. North Medford dominated Ashland but found itself trailing the skillful Grizzlies 1-0 early into the second half of the Southern Oregon Conference boys soccer match. But Jolly, with a lot of help from Colin Hunter, helped North regroup and the Black Tornado defeated Ashland, 3-1. North (6-1-2) improved to 3-0 in the SOC and moved into a conference first-place tie with cross-town rival South Medford. Jolly provided assists on Norths last two goals, while Hunter scored a goal and contributed to the other two scores. "Scott Jolly was the one who really made our team go today," North Medford coach Rich Garcia said. "He seemed to be wherever the ball was and disrupted a lot of their passes and helped get our offense going." After playing to a 0-0 halftime tie, Ashland scored on its first shot of the game at the 43rd minute. Scott Beaver took advantage of a North defensive mistake and netted the ball from 12 yards. North tied the game about nine minutes later when Dominic Crenshaw received a pass from Hunter. Crenshaw crossed the ball near the Grizzly net, where goalie Noah Shields first knocked the ball with his hands and tried to slide kick the ball away from the net. Aaryn Abbott beat Shields to the ball and scored. At the 63rd minute, Hunter was fouled just outside the box and on Norths direct kick, Jolly passed the ball to Crenshaw, who booted it inside the far post from 12 yards. "It was one of the sweetest plays Ive seen in a long time," said Garcia. "It was a set play that worked." With four minutes remaining, Jollys shot from 18 yards hit the top of the crossbar and bounded back to Hunter, whose shot rolled off Shields hands and into the Grizzly net. "Our senior leadership and maturity really took over today," said Garcia, "especially after we gave up that first goal. You could see our heads were not down." SOUTH MEDFORD 2, CRATER 0 At Fichtner- Mainwaring Park, the Panthers won the game but lost two players to injury. Senior Craig Tomlins broke a bone in his left hand bracing a fall in the first half. Its uncertain how long Tomlins will be out. Sophomore Ryan Wallenberg broke a bone in his jaw during a midair collision in the second half and will be out for four weeks. After a 0-0 halftime score freshman Corey ONeil had a redirected corner kick in the 59th minute. Sophomore Daniel Hathaway fired in an scissors kick from 18 yards out for the Panthers (3-0 in the SOC) final goal. ROSEBURG 2, KLAMATH UNION 1 At Roseburg, Stewart Wetmore scored the winning goal in the 52nd minute as Klamath Union was handed its first conference loss. Wetmore took a pass from Kevin Traviss and scored the decisive goal from 6 yards away to give Roseburg (5-5, 1-2 SOC) its first conference win. Josh Carlsons goal for Roseburg in the fourth minute was the only score in the first half. Klamath Union tied the match on a penalty kick by Luis Garcia at the 47th minute. Senior Chad Wilson returned to the lineup for Roseburg from a knee injury and helped the Indians control the midfield. The Indians also received a strong performance in the net from senior Alex Williams.
