About 10 p.m. Jackson County sheriff’s deputies, Eagle Point police, Jackson County Fire District No. 3 and Mercy Flights responded to a report of a large fight in the 3200 block of Antelope Road, White City. When authorities arrived, they found a group of six teens had been attacked by about 15 people they knew, sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. The bat-wielding attackers smashed all the windows out of a vehicle and broke a home’s sliding glass door, Puckett said. Five of the people attacked had cuts and bruises on their heads, arms and upper bodies. A 13-month-old child received cuts from flying glass, Puckett said. Mercy Flights transported some of the victims to local hospitals for treatment. Advertisement "When I arrived on scene there was broken glass all over and people were walking around in a daze and bleeding," Sheriff Mike Winters said. Nine police officers combed the streets of White City and Eagle Point looking for scattered suspects. About 3 a.m. Sunday, officers took a 16-year-old boy into custody and lodged him at the county’s juvenile detention center on six counts each of second-, third- and fourth-degree assault, as well as a single charge of recklessly endangering another person. Investigators continue to look for the other suspects involved in the incident. They ask anyone who witnessed the fight or fleeing teens to call 774-6800. Investigators said the two groups of teenagers clashed because members of one group wanted to retaliate against threats that the other group had made. Most of the teens involved in the fight were from 15 to 17 years old, but some suspects probably are adults, Puckett said. He said the threats and retaliatory nature might seem gang-like, but investigators think the fight was impromptu thuggery rather than organized violence.
