Animated lights near Vogel Plaza as well as lights on top of buildings began going up Thursday , thanks to Medford’s Holiday Celebration Committee, a group of business people. Decorating will get serious Monday , beginning with the arrival of the Christmas tree in Vogel Plaza around 9 a.m. The 35-foot tree, from near the Dead Indian Memorial Road area, was donated by Boise Cascade, according to Shirley Bewley, coordinator of the Holiday Celebration Committee. "Public Works and Parks and Rec will be there with a cherry picker to start putting red ornaments (on)," she said. The Santas will return. The dozen stuffed dolls which could be spotted on the sides of buildings last Christmastime have been reinforced with wire and fluffed up after looking droopy following last year’s winter rains. "We’re putting bones in them so they can be posed," said Bewley. New decorations this year include five-foot gold stars on Main Street, a new banner to span Central Avenue and small banners for the light poles on Central Avenue and near Vogel Plaza. There will be entertainment and events up through Dec. 25, ranging from bagpipes and clowns to a window decorating contest. Bewley said there’s a long way to go to get everything together in time. "I still could use volunteers," she said. To help out with the downtown holiday decorating and celebration, contact Bewley at 245-3673. A few downtown holiday events Here are a few of the events set during downtown Medford’s holiday celebration: 9 a.m. Monday — Christmas tree arrives at Vogel Plaza.
