Two challenge Williams for mayor Hank Williams, left, Rick Samuelson and Bret Barlow Jr. Monday Oct 24, 2016 at 11:01 PM The following are candidates for Central Point mayor. Ballots were mailed Friday and are due back to the Jackson County Elections Office by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8. Twenty-four-hour drop boxes opened today at the Elections Office and libraries in Ashland, Central Point, Eagle Point and Rogue River. Bret Barlow Age: 26 Occupation: Student Education: Bachelor of Science in Digital Communications, Oregon State University Political experience: None Top priorities: I interned with Central Point City Hall in high school. I want to end corruption in City Hall. It has impacted me personally and I do not want to see it happen to anyone else. I also want to bring accountability back to the city government. No more running and hiding when bad things happen. I will always be out in front of any issues, good and bad.   Rick Samuelson Age: 48 Occupation: Florist Education: Rogue Community College Political experience: City Council, Planning Commission, Development Commission, Budget Committee, Rogue Valley Council of Governments Top priorities: I believe the city of Central Point does fantastic work for us. I think our police officers are top-notch and our city does its very best to respond to the daily needs of the citizens. The city constantly strives to improve itself. Where we can be better is in budgeting and spending. I believe the council is elected to provide oversight of the city on behalf of the people of Central Point. With oversight on financial planning, the council can help reduce or eliminate the need for additional fees. Hank Williams Age: 80 Occupation: Retired banker Education: Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Sacramento State College Political experience: Mayor of Central Point for 14 years, Budget Committee prior Top priorities: 1) Public safety: Community policing-oriented police department that promotes a sense of safety and security in our city and school system. This includes officers in Crater High School and Scenic Middle School. 2) Community: Positive public perception of our city is predicated on maintaining a clean, attractive and safe atmosphere that includes parks, open space and recreational opportunities. These will be my focuses.
