Pedestrian hit, killed by car on South Central Medford police detectives investigate the scene where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on South Central Avenue near 12th Street Tuesday morning. [Mail Tribune / Andy Atkinson] Tuesday Jan 2, 2018 at 8:58 AM Jan 2, 2018 at 4:34 PM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil A man died after being hit by a car on South Central Avenue in Medford this morning. The man was hit about 7:27 a.m. between East 12th and East 13th streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police interviewed the driver and a witness. The driver was cooperating with law enforcement, and no charges have been filed, according to Medford police Lt. Kerry Curtis. By this afternoon, police still had not identified the victim or the driver. Police released little information about what led up to the collision. They had located surveillance systems in the area and said they will review the footage to see whether they can get a fuller picture of what happened. "It sounds like the pedestrian was in the road," Curtis said. The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team arrived to investigate using a FARO scanner, Curtis said. The device makes full scans of crime and accident scenes and creates a three-dimensional digital rendering police can refer to. South Central Avenue was closed at East 12th Street while officers worked the scene. Traffic was detoured onto South Front Street or South Riverside Avenue. The case will be referred to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for review, police said. — Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected].
