On the evening of Jan. 12, Hector Sanchez-Navarro and Mario Victor Richard Salcedo allegedly arrived at the apartment of 49-year-old Richard Dean Ramsey in the 2100 block of Taylor Road in Central Point. According to court documents, Sanchez-Navarro, initially known to Central Point police as Ector Navarro-Sanchez, stabbed Ramsey and knocked out his teeth. Court documents show that prosecutors intend to argue that Ramsey did not contribute to the assault by precipitating the attack in any substantial way. Another 49-year-old man at the apartment attempted to stop the fight, but was then also assaulted and threatened, according to documents. When James Robert Krous attempted to stop the Sanchez-Navarro's attack on Ramsey, Salcedo allegedly strangled Krous, menaced him with a knife and told him not to get involved. Salcedo allegedly held Krous at knife point until Sanchez-Navarro stabbed Ramsey and told Salcedo to run. Sanchez-Navarro, 32, of the 700 block of Broad Street, Medford, turned himself in to Central Point police the morning after the attack. He faces charges in Jackson County Circuit Court of attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. It was previously reported that Sanchez-Navarro had no previous convictions, determined after searching court records for the name initially given to Central Point police, Ector Navarro-Sanchez, but records show that Sanchez-Navarro was convicted of delivering methamphetamine in Jackson County Circuit Court in 2011 and pleaded guilty to charges of felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and meth possession after he fired a handgun in the air in front of his west Medford home in July of this year. Central Point police arrested Salcedo, 29, of the 700 block of Northwood Drive, Medford, on Jan. 16 on charges related to the attack and for parole violaion on a 2013 felony fourth-degree assault charge. Court records show prior felony charges of meth possession in June and July, 2015. Salcedo was arraigned and indicted Wednesday on one felony charge of coercion, and misdemeanor charges of strangling and menacing for his alleged involvement in the January attack.
