Crum stepped into the presence of her Lord on June 3, 2015. She is the cherished wife and best friend of Robert (Bob) K. Crum, Sr. and the beloved mother of Michele I. Thomas (and husband, Buck Thomas). Cookie was born in Davenport, Iowa in 1931 to Frank and Margery Coffman, who preceded her in Heaven. She is also joining her brothers Bud Coffman and Sonny Coffman there. She leaves behind her husband and daughter as well as her sisters, Diana Hall and Patsy Leet; her brother, Tommy Coffman; granddaughters, Micah Risley and Erika McGoffin; grandson, Eric Ardoin; great-grandchildren, Jordan Huggins, Zane McGoffin, Lillian McGoffin, Naomi McGoffin, Noah Risley and Faith Ardoin (and numerous “step” greats that she loved). Cookie has step-sons, Michael Mayben, Robert (and Lynette) Crum, Jr., and Michael Crum as well as step-daughters, Linda (Mayben) Edwards, Trish (Crum) Russell and Tonya (Crum) LaChonce, all of whom she loved as her own. She also will be waiting for countless relatives and friends not mentioned here to join her in entertaining the angels. Her “occupation” is listed as “Retired Daredevil” but we don’t think she ever really retired. The past year of her life, her walker had “Harley Davidson” stickers all over it. She loved her family, her friends near and far, horses, elephants and motorcycles. Cookie learned to ride motorcycles at 14 and then joined Ringling Brothers Circus at 16 (hence the elephants and horses). Finding that too tame, she answered an ad for a female daredevil to ride the Wall of Death motordrome which she loved with all her heart. She was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2009 and is a Charter Member of the American Motorcycle Association (AMA). She enjoyed being a member of Motor Maids and Eastern Star as well as Daughters of the Nile. She is in several books (including the 2011 edition of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not) about women motorcycle riders and her goal was always to instill a sense of being a lady while riding and to encourage women in their pursuits. She loved every one she met and the feelings were mutual. Her funeral arrangements are handled by Conger-Morris on Riverside in Medford and there will be a Celebration of Life for her at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11th, 2015 at D & S Harley Davidson. (Mark your calendars!) In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you send memorial contributions to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Join us for this time of remembering all that Cookie was, and bring your favorite memory.
