One dead, another injured after fall from cliff By Mail Tribune staff Sep 09, 2019 12:03 PM A A TOKATEE — A Grants Pass man died and a Grants Pass woman suffered serious injuries when they apparently fell 70 feet off a rock cliff late Saturday near Umpqua Hot Springs near Tokatee, about 60 miles east of Roseburg, authorities said. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office identified the dead man as 24-year-old Christian Simmons and the injured woman as 20-year-old Azrael Maujean. Initial reports indicate the pair were at Umpqua Hot Springs Saturday night and became lost in the 2000 block of Thorn Prairie Road and fell off a cliff, deputies said. Maujean was found Sunday by people in the area and they notified police at 1:30 p.m., authorities said. Neither had equipment for wilderness night travel, police said. Maujean was taken by ambulance to Roseburg’s Mercy Medical Center, which did not offer any information about her condition. Misc emergency.jpg
