After a break Tuesday, showers are expected throughout the week, with snow on the valley floor possible by Friday morning. Mount Ashland could see a foot and a half of new snow by then, says Michelle Cohen, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Medford. Snowfall Monday morning put Medford and Ashland school districts on a two-hour delay, along with Grace Cascade Christian, St. Mary's, and Logos and Prospect charter schools. Southern Oregon University, Jackson County Early Intervention, Jackson County Early Childhood Special Education, and U.S. District Court in Medford were also put on two-hour delays. The Phoenix-Talent School District had a one-hour delayed start. Early Monday, three-tenths of an inch fell at the Medford airport, though 1 to 3 inches fell in multiple spots across Medford, according to meteorologist Brian Nieuwenhuis. Just over 2½ inches fell in Ashland, while Provolt received three-tenths of an inch. Diamond Lake received a foot. The Mt. Ashland Ski Area Monday morning reported 6 inches of new snow over 24 hours, making for a 28-inch base at mid-mountain. Another system is expected to push into the area Tuesday night into Wednesday, weather officials said. "That system's similar to this one; but it's a little bit stronger on the wind side," Nieuwenhuis said Monday, adding Rogue Valley residents could awake Wednesday to another round of light snow on the valley floor. Mt. Ashland officials have said they expect to be open the rest of the season into April. "It's not common, but it's not unheard of," Nieuwenhuis said of the late-season snow.
