Pedestrian dies after being hit by bus in Central Point Thursday Jun 29, 2017 at 9:22 AM Jun 29, 2017 at 10:17 AM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil CENTRAL POINT — A man died early today after being struck by a Greyhound bus in Central Point. The accident happened at 1:29 a.m. near the Pilot Travel Center on Peninger Road, Central Point police said. One of the bus's passengers called 911, according to Jackson County Fire District No. 3. The investigation is still underway, but police say the man may have been a passenger on the bus. Detectives are still working to identify the man. "We're not even certain on age," said Central Point police Detective Josh Abbott. They said the man may have been late getting back on the vehicle after a pit stop at the gas station and was chasing after it, according to witness statements. How he got hit is still unknown. "We’re still trying to figure out a lot of those answers," Abbott said. Police and fire officials responded to the scene. The man was dead when they arrived. The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team reconstructed the scene using a three-dimensional imaging device called a FARO scanner, a purchase made about a month ago. "It takes millions and millions and millions of measurements and it puts them all together," said Cpl. David Penkava with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. "We can create essentially a three-dimensional view of the entire scene." A section of Peninger Road was shut down until about 6 a.m. while police conducted their investigation, Abbott said.
