He was born January 23, 1933 to Robert Parsons and Beulah Catherine McCoy in Elkins, W. Va. His parents moved to Connellsville, Pa. in 1933, where the family had resided for many years. Mac "Sandy" attended school and graduated in 1951 and had joined the U.S. Navy the following year. During his Navy career, he was stationed in Piney Point, Md. and aboard an aircraft Carrier. He then was assigned to a Special Seabee Unit, which deployed to Antarctica for Operation DeepFreeze, an Admiral Bird expedition. He wintered over at Litle America V for 13 months prior to returning to the U..S. He then was stationed in Mechanicsburg, Pa. From there, he deployed again to the Antarctic for another year. Then he was stationed on an amphibious assault ship. His ship was in Cuba when Castro created problems. In 1963, he volunteered for Submarine duty and was stationed aboard the USS THORNBACK, SS 418 home ported in Charleston, S.C., where he met a fine English Lady, named Natasha. She went home to England. His next duty station was in London, England, where he searched for, found, and married Natasha. They had two sons together. His next assignment was at Vietnam for a year, then returned to the U.S. and on duty in Md., where another son was born. After duty at Patuxant River Naval Air Test Center, it was back to Submarine duty aboard the USS PATRICK HENRY, SSBN 599. After two patrols, it was time for retirement. The family retired to New Mexico, where various Masonic Organizations had occuped his time for a few years, until his wife of 37 years passed away. Mac then moved to Oregon and captured a fine lady named Yolanda, until his passing. He is survived by Mark and Mathew (Gabby) of Port Orchard, Wash; Paul (Jamie) of Honolulu, Hawaii; and his lady, Yolanda, and her children: Lori, Teresa, and Steven. He lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed. A memorial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Grants Pass Masonic Lodge. Donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital.
