South Medford’s Foss, EP’s Lopez win titles in GP By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Dec 17, 2022 07:44 PM A A One week later and it was more of the same for South Medford’s Bridger Foss and Eagle Point’s Tygren Lopez, who went unbeaten for the second straight weekend to earn championships at the Grants Pass Winter Kickoff wrestling tournament on Saturday. Foss (upper weights) and Lopez (lower weights) were each named outstanding wrestlers at last week’s North Bend Coast Classic and did nothing to dissuade those thoughts in Grants Pass. The sophomore Foss pinned Del Norte sophomore Colton Schaad in 3 minutes, 20 seconds to cap off his championship run at 160 pounds, while the junior Lopez scored a 16-4 major decision over Philomath senior Chase Ringwald. Eagle Point also received second-place showings from freshman Gavin Pogue (152) and Emilio Ayala (220) to finish second in the team standings — similar to last week’s showing — with 175.5 points. Grants Pass won the team title with 192 points. Pogue was pinned in 4:51 by Grants Pass senior Tagge Fry in the 152-pound finals, while Ayala suffered a 10-2 major decision defeat to Henley’s Matthew McCoy at 220. Eagle Point’s Ethan Metcalf (126) and Garrett Matthews (285) each finished third, while teammate Diego De La Cruz was fourth at 138. South Medford, which was fifth in the team standings with 115 points, also received a runner-up effort from Caleb Dalke, who saw his run at 182 end in the finals with a pin by North Valley sophomore Ryan Gaskin in 3:42. Also for the Panthers, Vaughn Graff (106) placed fourth. Andrew Likens paced North Medford by placing third at 170, while Rogue River’s Basen Rambo also placed third at 120.
