PUBLIC SAFETY Medford police use anti-overdose nasal spray to revive heroin victim MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 10, 2015 @ 1:22 pm Posted Mar. 10, 2015 @ 1:22 pm » Social News p bs:newslist StartDate="20121121" EndDate="p bs:datecalc Months="3"" DateSort="1" UseObjects="1" ObjectClass="81" Taxonomywords="2325,665" ExactTaxonomyMatch="1" Image="1" Count="4" --> Medford police used a medicated nasal spray for the first time Monday to revive a man who'd overdosed on heroin in his bathtub. Officers learned of a possible overdose victim in the 1200 block of Morrow Road at about 10 p.m. Monday. They found a 39-year-old man unconscious in a bathtub, exhibiting symptoms consistent with a heroin overdose, a Medford police news release said. Officers revived the man using Naxalone, an opiate antagonist intended to reverse the effects of the overdose. Police say the man was taken to a local hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery, the release said. Medford police began carrying Naxalone in their patrol and detective vehicles in January. The drug, also known by the brand name Narcan, is administered in the form of a nasal spray and is widely used by police departments on the East Coast. Police say they began carrying Naxalone in response to a major resurgence in heroin use in the Rogue Valley.
