Giles powers Pilots past the Ducks The Associated Press PORTLAND - Former North Medford High standout Ashlee Giles scored 18 points to lead the Portland Pilots to a surprising 77-73 win over Oregon on Tuesday. It was just the second time in 18 tries that Portland has defeated the Ducks, with the Pilots' last victory in the series coming in 1997. The Pilots led nearly all the way and held as much as a 13-point lead. Oregon made it close behind the play of Edniesha Curry, who led the Ducks with 20 points and hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left to make it 74-73. Ashland High alumnus Hanna Seltzer's two free throws gave the Pilots a 76-73 lead. Giles then sealed the win by stealing the ball with 13 seconds left and hitting one free throw. "Ashley Giles played as well as any player I've ever had play in a big game," Portland head coach Jim Sollars said. Tami Standish added 14 points for Portland and Khalila Williams had 12.
