Woman gets probation for pill thefts from VA Amanda Marie Flory Thursday Jun 29, 2017 at 12:36 PM Jun 29, 2017 at 6:25 PM Nick Morgan Mail Tribune @mtcrimebeat A Medford woman admitted Wednesday she stole opioid painkillers from patients while working in the Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics pharmacy. Amanda Marie Flory, 26, was sentenced to probation in Jackson County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges related to painkiller thefts that occurred between December and February, according to Deputy District Attorney Marco Boccato, who prosecuted the case. Flory admitted she opened pharmacist-prepared bottles of prescription medicines before patients picked them up approximately 20 times between Dec. 15, 2016, and Feb. 10, 2017.  Boccato described the case as an "unusual crime," though not a complicated one. Surveillance video reportedly captured Flory, while working at the White City facility, opening bottles and taking small numbers of pills. Flory didn't sell any of the medicines she stole, according to Boccato. “We didn’t get the sense that she was doing this to make money or to generate income,” Boccato said. “She discussed with officers that she was struggling with addiction.” Circuit Court Judge David Hoppe sentenced Flory to 18 months of probation after accepting guilty pleas to a felony count of possessing oxycodone and a misdemeanor count of acquiring oxycodone by fraud.  If Flory complies with all terms of her probation, which include consuming no intoxicants, 80 hours of community service and participating in a drug treatment program, the felony charge of possessing oxycodone will be dismissed. Boccato said he believes a conditional discharge is appropriate for Flory, who has no prior criminal history. “We want her to make a positive change in her life, but she still needs to be held accountable for her actions," Boccato said.
