Irving “Ike” Eisenstein MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 7, 2014 @ 2:00 am Posted Sep. 7, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News Irving Ike Eisenstein Irving Ike Eisenstein, 84 of Medford, Oregon passed away surrounded by his children at his home Monday, September 1, 2014. He was born September 24, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York. Ike came to the Medford area while on active duty at Camp White with the United States Air Force. It was while stationed at Camp White that he met his future wife, Leila Lee Pitts in front of the Medford Carnegie Library. They courted for about a year and were married on June 22, 1952. Later that year Ike left for a new assignment in Wiesbaden Germany, being joined by his wife a few months later. Their eldest daughter, Diana was born while they were living in Wiesbaden. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Ike attended Southern Oregon College. Laurie, their second daughter, was born and Ike began working at for the Credit Bureau of Medford. On March 1, 1959 Ike and Lee started their own business, Southern Oregon Credit Service, Incorporated. Their son, Mark, was born later that same year. On February 10, 1969, SOCS, located in the Fluhrer Building, burned to the ground. It is currently the site of Vogel Plaza located next to the Craterian Theater. Thanks to support of the wonderful local community, friends, clients, and business organizations, Ike and Lee were able to rebuild SOCS. Even those who owed money to SOCS helped to re-create the burned files for the business. It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. Ike later became president of the Oregon Collectors Association and the Western Collectors Conference. He was also the director of the American Collectors Association for 10 years. Ike and Lee retired and sold their business in 2001. The Eisenstein family contributed toward the Leila J. Eisenstein Breast Center when Leila died in 2003. Ike was preceded in death by Leila, his lovely wife of fifty-one years. He is survived by his two sisters, Ethel Zipin and Lynn Chiampou; his two daughters, Diana Knox and Laurie Henning; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Donna Eisenstein; as well as five grandchildren, Lauren Knox, Katy Henning, Will Henning, Emily Eisenstein, and Adam Eisenstein. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Boulevard, Medford, Oregon 97504. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Addictions Recovery Center, 1003 West Main Street, Medford, Oregon 97501 or Children's Advocacy Center, 816 West 10th Street, Medford, Oregon 97501.
