Mt. Ashland plans to open today Tuesday Dec 22, 2015 at 7:27 AM Dec 22, 2015 at 7:44 AM Mt. Ashland Ski Area is poised to open today. As of 6:45 a.m. ski officials reported online that the power was back on at the hill, employees were scheduled to arrive on time and crews hoped to have some lifts running by 9 a.m. The slopes had received 12 inches of snow in the past 24 hours, but it was wet and heavy, and precipitation had turned to freezing rain early this morning, the snow report at mtashland.com said. Crews hoped to have the Sonnet and Windsor lifts running, but said Comer and Ariel would be delayed. Ice had accumulated on the lifts, the snow report said. Mt. Ashland now has 63 inches of snow, roughly 5 feet, at the lodge and mid-mountain and 96 inches, or 8 feet, at the top. The heavy snow along with wind downed trees and power lines, closing the ski hill Monday, which would have been part of its two-week holiday run.
