Romero, a human rights activist, was shot and killed while saying mass near the start of the country’s over-a-decade-long civil war. The killing has been tied to the country’s former right-wing government. Romero is set to be beatified later this year. SURVEY SAYS A new poll conducted by Leger Marketing found that 63 percent of Canada’s Protestants, 62 percent of Jews, 60 percent of Catholics and 46 percent of the non-religious believe Western and Islamic societies are “irreconcilable.” The survey also found that 42 percent of Canadian Muslims believe the differences between the West and Islamic cultures was irreconcilable.
