Court documents show Christina Marie Christopher, 44, has been indicted on 21 charges, 15 of which are felonies. They include 11 counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, two counts of first-degree aggravated theft, and two counts of first-degree theft. The remaining six charges are for second-degree theft, a misdemeanor. The investigation into Christopher began in September 2015 following a referral to the agency from Adult Protective Services. "Concerns were raised that Christopher was using the victim's financial resources for personal gain," a sheriff's department news release reads. The male victim, a 69-year-old family member in Christopher's care, suffers from dementia, police said, and Christopher had assumed the man's power of attorney. Police suspect Christopher stole more than $131,000 from the man's accounts, along with more than $105,000 in credit she took out in his name, police said. All proceeds were "to acquire real estate and to purchase goods and services for her own use," according to the release. Details on what purchases Christopher allegedly made were not available. Property records show Christopher is listed as a co-owner on a home in the 6300 block of Ponderosa Street in Central Point, though court records list her as living in a residence in the 500 block of North Fifth Street in Jacksonville. There are no additional records of property transactions in the county. Christopher reportedly turned herself into the Jackson County Jail Monday, Sept. 5, where she was booked. She has since posted bail and is prohibited from contacting the victim before trial. Christopher does not have an additional criminal history in Oregon, court records show. Upcoming court dates on the case were not listed Tuesday. Anyone with additional information on the case is asked to contact the sheriff's department at 541-774-6800. The case number is 15-16888.
