Glide holds off Phoenix in softball tilt PHOENIX - Rain, hail, snow and any other elements of weather couldn't stop the Phoenix softball team from taking the field against Glide on Wednesday. The Pirates fell behind early and made a late rally but couldn't make a winner of pitcher Tiffany Ross during a rain-soaked season-opening 2-1 loss. Ross went the distance, giving up one hit and an unearned run while striking out seven. April Darby knocked home the lone Phoenix run with a groundout in the seventh leaving runners on second and third with two outs. Glide recorded the final out on a fielders choice. Kendra Kohler was went 2-for-3 to lead Phoenix, which left nine runners on and committed five errors.
