Diana Lynn Zeman, 56, address unknown, allegedly assaulted the man after he left a warming shelter at about 3:45 a.m. today at Pioneer Hall on Winburn Way and walked toward the Ashland Plaza, an Ashland press release said. Zeman allegedly confronted the man in the first block of North Main Street and menaced him several times with a knife. Police said the man fended off Zeman and suffered multiple lacerations. It is not known what size of knife or where the man was wounded. A call to the Ashland police was not immediately returned this evening. He fled to the Ashland Police Contact Station for help and was treated for non-life-threatening lacerations at Asante Ashland Community Hospital and released. Zeman was lodged at the Jackson County Jail today on felony charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and unlawful use of a weapon, misdemeanor charges of attempted use of a dangerous weapon, menacing, second-degree disorderly conduct and harassment. She was lodged in jail on more than $3 million bail. The motive for the attack remains under investigation. Detectives have determined one or two uninvolved people were in the area at the time of the assault who may have witnessed the incident. Ashland police ask anyone with information about the assault, or who may know of witnesses, to call 541-482-5211 and reference case number 15-3575 . Witnesses also can call the anonymous tip line at 541-552-2333 or email at [email protected].
