RINGING IN 2017 IN 17 SYLLABLES Sunday Jan 1, 2017 at 2:00 AM Jan 1, 2017 at 8:56 AM New Year's resolutions can be tough to keep. We wanted to make it easier by simplifying. The Mail Tribune held a haiku contest from mid- to late-December. Participants were asked to distill their resolution(s) down to a haiku, a three-line Japanese poem that has five syllables on the first line, seven on the second, and five again on the third. We also asked for a selfie or some other kind of photo illustrating their goal. The results were varied and pleasant to read.
