Nathan Lee Geith, 25, of the 1300 block of Oriole Street, remained lodged in the Josephine County Jail Thursday on suspicion of killing an acquaintance, Savanna Ivysivi Albertson, 17. The girl, who moved in and out of the Grants Pass area freely, staying with family in Southern Oregon and elsewhere, had been stabbed multiple times, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Deputy Chief Bill Landis said. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death. Residents of the 1400 block of Southeast Portola Drive called 9-1-1 at about 7:45 p.m. to report that a bloody man, whom police later identified as Geith, had climbed over a fence into their backyard while they were barbecuing, Landis said. Incoherent, Geith roamed the yard and went into the garage of the property several hundred feet from his home. Police responding there detained him. Toxicology tests were done to determine whether he was under the influence of intoxicants, but results were not available for release, Landis said. Officers went to his home and found Albertson's body, police reported. Albertson was a witness in a just-concluded manslaughter case against Joseph G. O'Dell, 24, who was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison in the July 2009 killing of his girlfriend Caitlyn Strauser. Albertson initially lied to police in an apparent effort to protect O'Dell, but later recanted, according to an affidavit filed in Josephine County Circuit Court. Witnesses in that case had been threatened by O'Dell, who also was convicted of witness tampering. A Wolf Creek woman remains charged with four counts of witness tampering and assault in that case, The Daily Courier in Grants Pass reported. Any connection between Wednesday's murder and the manslaughter case could not be confirmed Thursday with Grants Pass police. Landis reiterated that Albertson and Geith knew one another, but he declined to disclose details about their relationship. "This was not stranger to stranger," he said. He said police were looking into reports that Albertson was associated with the Juggalos, fans of the band Insane Clown Posse who consider themselves a "family," but are classified as a gang by authorities. Another fatal stabbing near Menegazzi Garden Park in September 2007 was determined to have links to the group, Landis said. A dog walker found Wayne Alex Brueggemann, 25, who had no permanent address, dead of multiple stab wounds early one morning. However, police don't yet know whether this case is related, he said. "We still have a lot to do," Landis said. Investigators have interviewed numerous neighbors and others linked to the case and collected evidence for forensic evaluation as they work to reconstruct the final hours of Albertson's life and details about her death, Landis said. Oregon State Police and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office are assisting in the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Grants Pass police at 541-474-6370.
