Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend April 28, 2006 Phoenix police chief's son arrested By Chris Conrad Mail Tribune According to sheriff's detectives, former Phoenix police chief Bob Kershaw sacrificed his career and his freedom to keep his son out of jail. But it was all in vain. Andrew Kershaw, 21, was arrested Thursday on reckless endangering and six counts of furnishing liquor to minors. He remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail late Thursday in lieu of $28,000 bail. Detectives allege Andrew Kershaw provided several underage girls with liquor during a party thrown Jan. 27 at his father's former house in the 4300 block of Dark Hollow Road. At the time, Andrew Kershaw was a community service officer with Phoenix police. "We have also determined Kershaw brandished a service weapon belonging to his father while he was intoxicated, which is very dangerous considering how many intoxicated juveniles were present," said Detective Colin Fagan. He apparently pointed the gun at one of the juveniles, sheriff's officials said in a news release. Advertisement One of those present was an 18-year-old foster child under Bob Kershaw's charge. He and his wife have since been relieved as foster parents, according to Department of Human Services officials. Andrew Kershaw wasn't the only Phoenix police employee present at the party. Also arrested Thursday was former Phoenix reserve officer Steven Odom, 25, of the 1700 block of Key Drive, Medford. Odom was charged with six counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and remained jailed on $24,000 bail. Bob Kershaw attempted to absolve his son of the reckless endangering charge, a misdemeanor, when he placed himself in charge of investigating the party. Andrew Kershaw and Odom were fired from Phoenix police soon after the initial investigation into the party. The case remains in the hands of the Oregon Department of Justice in Salem.
