Cascade Christian senior Brandon Winter was also given the Class 3A lineman of the year award. At the 6A level, Grants Pass senior defensive lineman Anthony Del Toro — the Southwest Conference defensive player of the year — made the first team. The Cavemen went 8-3 overall. At the 5A level, Crater senior Cavin Gillispie earned a spot on the offensive and defensive first team. The running back, who was the Midwestern League player of the year, had 1,253 rushing yards on 151 attempts, 23 total touchdowns (including 19 rushing) and 147 total points entering their state quarterfinal game against Central. Gillispie was also a first-team linebacker for the Comets, who fell in the state semifinals and finished 11-1 overall. Crater’s other first-team picks were senior offensive lineman Daniel Butler and junior defensive lineman JT Gill. Ashland senior wide receiver Walker Shibley made the 5A first-team list for the Grizzlies, who lost in the state championship game to Summit and finished 10-3 overall. At the 4A level, Phoenix senior defensive lineman Mase Masalosalo landed first-team acclaim. He was the Skyline Conference’s defensive player of the year for the Pirates, who went 6-3 overall. In 3A, Cascade Christian sophomore Haiden Schaan, junior wide receiver Carson Cochran and Winter were first-team honorees. Winter, the lineman of the year, made the first team on offense and defense. The repeat all-state first-teamer registered 50 tackles with an interception and two forced fumbles for the Challengers, who went 7-4 overall. Winter was the Southern Cascade League defensive player of the year. Schaan was the SCL’s offensive player of the year. He threw for 2,461 yards and 27 touchdowns and ran for 741 yards and 12 TDs while averaging 7.7 yards per carry. Cochran had 45 catches for 785 yards and seven touchdowns. The locals who made second-team all-state lists were: Grant Pass senior Jaxon Clark (punter), Crater senior Marcus Carter (offensive lineman), Crater senior Jason Santoni (kicker), Crater junior John Ale (lineman), Crater junior Austin Kramer (defensive back), Ashland’s Shibley (punter), Cascade Christian junior Moses Jackson (defensive lineman), Cascade Christian senior Stephen Christensen (linebacker), Cascade Christian junior Zach Fralich (defensive back) and St. Mary’s senior kicker Nick VanValkenberg. The locals landing spots on honorable mention lists were: South Medford sophomore Chase Cota (defensive back), North Medford senior Tucker Barry (defensive back), Grants Pass’ Del Toro (offensive lineman), Grants Pass senior Aaron Little (offensive lineman), Grants Pass’ Clark (kicker), Crater senior Matt Struck (quarterback), Crater’s Kramer (receiver), Ashland senior Shashi Penn (receiver), Ashland senior Michael Pruitt (tight end), Crater senior Tommy Winningham (linebacker), Crater senior Jesse Merritt (linebacker), Phoenix senior Justin Knight (running back), Phoenix senior Kyle Botermans (offensive lineman), Phoenix’s Mase Masalosalo (offensive lineman), Phoenix senior Frank Masalosalo (defensive back), Phoenix’s Knight (defensive back), Cascade Christian senior Chase Wager (receiver) and Cascade Christian junior Nash O’Hara (offensive lineman).
