House heads to new address Mail Tribune / Jim Craven Movers lift traffic lights out of the way as a house destined for Jacksonville makes its way down Oakdale in Medford on Monday. It was rescued by Jacksonville resident Bruno Goossens after it was scheduled to be torn down to make room for a new juvenile center on 10th Street. It took two hours to get through the streets of Medford because of illegally parked cars. But other than waiting for folks to move their vehicles, it was smooth sailing Monday for the mover that relocated a 72-year-old home from Medford to Jacksonville. The home marked for demolition was rescued by Bruno Goossens, a Jacksonville resident who restores old homes. Doc Chaplin, of Doc�s House Moving, used a military tow truck to pull the 28-foot-wide home seven miles from 10th Street in Medford to its new resting place at 330 S. Fourth in Jacksonville. Goossens took the three-bedroom craftsman-style home off the hands of a demolition company hired by Jackson County to clear a city block to make room for a new juvenile detention center. The home was placed on a foundation that Goossens built in Jacksonville. The home needs a heating system, new wiring and a fresh coat of paint. After he restores it, Goossens plans to rent it out or sell it. More folks are choosing to move homes rather than build from scratch as material costs climb and lumber becomes less available, the house mover said. "People realize the benefit and the great equity in moving and recycling homes," Chaplin said. "It�s definitely worth their while." The 1,750-square-foot home is filled with Douglas fir crown molding and custom, built-in cabinets. It�s been well cared for and holds no vestiges of decorating trends such as wallpaper, carpet, vinyl or colorful paints. It used to have beveled glass doors until thieves broke in and took them sometime over the past two months, Goossens said.
