No. 2 men's seed beaten in Big Al's ASHLAND -- Jason Wilson of Sacramento knocked off No. 2 seed Matt Mancasola of El Dorado Hills, Calif., in the men's open quarterfinals Saturday at Hunter Park to advance into this morning's semifinals in the Big Al's Tennis Tournament. Wilson won the first set 7-6, taking the tiebreaker 8-6 before Mancasola retired. Wilson plays former champion Beau Toy of Henderson, Nev., in one 8 a.m. semifinal, while five-time defending champion Todd Stanley of Sacramento takes on Ashland's Dan Baird in the other semi. The men's open final is scheduled for 10:30. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in men's 4.0 were ousted. Rick Johnsen of Medford defeated No. 1 Leslie Peters of Yuba City, 6-1, 6-4 in the second round. Dave Hall of Chico sent Richard Emsweiler of Biggs, Calif., packing, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1. George Wilson of Red Bluff, Calif., bumped off the No. 2 seed in the 3.5 quarterfinals, topping Roque Matagulay of Redding, Calif., 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to gain this morning's semifinals. Central Point's Colleen Cohee will meet Candace Swire in the 10 a.m. women's open final. In women's 4.5 play No. 1 seed Sue Carlson of Redding, Calif., was upended by Kathlyn Lamoure of Davis, Calif., 6-3, 6-1. Lamoure meets Marie Lutz of Grants Pass, a 6-3, 6-1 winner over No. 2 Elizabeth Schoenleber of Ashland, in the 9 a.m. finals. In men's 4.5 play, Ashland's Ben Haden reached the 9 a.m. finals against third-seeded Kurt Champe Jr. of Redding. Haden defeated No. 1 seed Dick Sharp of Beaverton, 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
