At the recent mass meeting it was stated by T. S. Robinson of Portland, a member of state liberty loan committee, that the rating committee would have recourse to any individual’s bank account, in an effort to determine what that individual’s contribution to the loan should be. The speaker did not go into detail, however, and it is believed that there was no thought of compelling an individual to make his private bank account public. The following statement was issued last night by the four Medford banks: Notice to Bank Depositors Thru misunderstanding, an erroneous impression has been created to the effect that the banks would be required to divulge the amount that each depositor had to his credit in the banks for the information of the Liberty Loan committee or other committees. In order to assure our depositors, as well as the public, that such is not the case, we hereby certify that under no condition will we divulge directly or indirectly to any person or persons at this time or at any time hereafter, the amount that any individual, firm or corporation may have on deposit in our respective banks.
