Travis Jake Shepherd, 32, is held in the jail without bail on charges of attempted elude, unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless driving and an out-of-state warrant, according to jail records. Shepherd's last listed address is 125 W. Jackson St., per court records. Medford police reported Shepherd stole a red Dodge Neon as it idled in a driveway in the 500 block of Edwards Street early this morning. More than three hours later, police spotted the Neon turning onto Biddle Road from McAndrews Road and followed it as it traveled south. The pursuing officer tried to pull the car over near Jackson Street and Riverside Avenue, but Shepherd hit the gas pedal, police reported. "It accelerated up Jackson Street at approximately 70 to 80 mph and actually caught air," Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said. The car was later seen on Summit Drive, then on Table Rock Road near Midway Road. Police tried to pull the vehicle over a second time unsuccessfully. Oregon State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department took over the chase, pursuing the car until Shepherd crashed it near the intersection of Table Rock and Webber roads, near Sams Valley Elementary School. The time the pursuit ended was not immediately available. Court records show Shepherd has another open felony court case, which stems from burglary and methamphetamine possession charges back in October.
