Umpqua announces an increase in earnings Umpqua Holdings Corporation has announced third quarter 2001 income before merger-related expenses of $3,073,820, a 22.5 percent increase over the same period in 2000. Per-share earnings before merger-related expenses were up to 21 cents for the quarter ending Sept. 30, an increase of 10.5 percent over a similar period in 2000. The efficiency ratio of the company's largest subsidiary, Umpqua Bank, before merger-related expenses improved slightly to 53.4 percent for the quarter. Non-interest income for the third quarter increased to $4.3 million compared to the $3.5 million reported for the third quarter of 2000, representing a 24 percent increase. Strand, Atkinson, Williams and York, the company's brokerage subsidiary, also reported an increase in gross brokerage fees and commissions to $2.2 million, an increase of 23 percent compared to reported results for the third quarter of 2000. Total combined assets of Umpqua Holdings on Sept. 30 were $872 million, a 14 percent increase over the same period of 2000.
