A witness said the man "left abruptly" when approached by an adult, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. The man was seen talking to children at about 6 p.m. on April 26 in the 2200 block of Happy Valley Drive. The man, who was with a dog at the time, apparently asked at least two children to help him search for a ball lost by his pet, Moran said. When an adult emerged from a nearby garage, the man returned to his vehicle and left the scene. The man was driving a white van with blue stripes. Moran said the van may be a retired AT&T vehicle built in the 1980s. The man is described as white and in his early 30s. He has dark, tightly-cropped hair and a goatee, stands about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 210 pounds. Anyone with information about the man or his vehicle is asked to contact Medford police at 770-4783.
