Chris was born March 5, 1958 and was raised in the small western slope town of Delta, Colo. Her father, Llewellyn Springer, was a local banker and a community leader and her mother, Mildred Matthews Springer, was a deeply committed homemaker and love-giver whose values she reflected throughout her life. Chis and her father shared a passion for the Arabian horses that they bred and raised. She loved to ride from an early age and competed in dressage, was a barrel-racer, and a rodeo princess. She was kind, caring and popular with her fellow Delta High School students. Delta held a special place in her heart. Chris attended Mesa College and then moved to Denver, Colo. to pursue additional education in Fashion merchandizing, which she worked in for several years. She met Jeff Ashmun, a recent University of Denver graduate. They married in 1983 and soon moved to Southern California where they started a family. They spent leisure time camping and boating. Many fond memories were made in the clear, warm waters of Lake Mead, Havasu, Mojave, and Shasta. They made the move to Medford, Ore. in 2000 where Chris embarked on her new career as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She bloomed in this role, applying her great warmth to helping those struggling with Addiction through Genesis Recovery Center and beyond. Her counsel was clearly delivered in a spirit of great caring. She was highly respected for her honesty and inclusive, non-judgmental spirit. Chris loved Southern Oregon. She was a passionate animal lover and delighted in her home and yard, spending endless hours garnering pleasure from the life at work there. She enjoyed concerts and entertainment. She and the family, including her beloved service dog and constant companion, Duncan", were regular attendees at Britt festival events and Craterian performances. They often travelled for special concert events and experienced many of the greatest Rock, Pop, and Comedy performers of our time. Her daily courage was subtle and understated. Though she battled MD and other medical issues for much of her life, she never let her physical limitations define her. Her positive outlook seemed to weather any personal storm. She adapted to every setback, rejoicing in the many simple pleasures of being alive. She exuded compassion and modeled inner strength. Chris was a passionately loving and caring mother, wife, and friend. Family was all important as were her friends and anyone she could help. Her spirit of caring pervaded all of her relationships, personal and professional. This world has lost a very bright light but her indomitable spirit and smile remains. Chris is survived by her loving husband, Jeffrey; her brother, Alan Springer; sons, Dylan (Ashley) and Connor; daughter, Rebecca (Dennis) Anderson; granddaughter, Abigail; and her adored nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Chris's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2310 Voorhies Rd., Medford, Ore. At her request, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Joys of Living Assitance Dogs, PO Box 21804, Keizer, OR. www.joydogs.org MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 3, 2014 @ 2:00 am You may leave your condolences or share memories by signing the Guest Book here » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with MailTribune.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services Home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Announcements Obituaries Story ideas Since you asked Alerts Email Alerts RSS Feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
