GRANTS PASS FESTIVAL OF TREES: More than 32 professionally decorated Christmas trees will be auctioned at the Grants Pass Festival of Trees Gala to be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Riverside Inn, 955 S.E. Seventh St., Grants Pass. Along with the tree auction, there will be a silent auction of more than 70 items, live music, hors d'oeuvres and a no host bar. Advertisement SHOTTING CLUB: Shoot 'em up Western-style with the Table Rock Rangers, a cowboy action shooting club that shoots at 9 a.m. on the first Sunday and the second Saturday of every month at the Jackson County Sports Park, 6900 Kershaw Road, Central Point. CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS: The Southern Oregon Historical society will present "Celebrations of Light," two children's workshops that will explore the traditions of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and the Chinese New Year through storytelling and craft making, on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Jacksonville Children's Museum, 206 N. Fifth St., Jacksonville. The first workshop is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to noon and is geared for ages 3 and 4; the second workshop will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and is for ages 5 through 7. VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION: Jacksonville's 2006 Victorian Christmas continues with seasonal activities planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 9-10 and Dec. 16-17. Look for Santa Claus in a Victorian toyland, free wagon rides, a town crier, carolers, elves, hot roasted chestnuts and cider along California Street in downtown Jacksonville. The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon will perform from 2-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 10-11, on the street and in the First Presbyterian Church, 425 E. California St. The concerts are free. The historic Beekman House at California and Laurelwood streets will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-10. Costumed interpreters will share Victorian Christmas customs, and free samples of Mrs. Beekman's sugar cookies and recipes will be handed out. Fresh mistletoe also will be available. Admission to Beekman House is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 3-12 and seniors over 65. Call 899-8118. HISTORIC WALKING TOURS: Ben Truwe unlocks the secrets of the past during his "Haunted Brothels and Opium Dens of Medford" walking tours offered at 11 a.m. Saturdays. Find out where Medford residents "lynched the knocker and burned the hammer." The free tours last about two hours and are suitable for all ages. STORYTELLING: Willy Whitefeather, honorary chief of the Black Creek Cherokee of Florida, a river rafter, backwoods guide and author of children's books about survival skills, will present "The Cherokee Way" at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Applegate Library, 18485 N. Applegate Road, Applegate. Whitefeather's program is a telling of Cherokee, Navajo, Sious and Inuit lore. His recent movie, "Hope," won a People's Choice Award at the Sedona Movie Festival. Monday, Dec. 11 KIDS' IMAGINATION DISCOVERY SPACE: At 226 N. Ross Lane, Medford, the nonprofit museum and play space offers interactive exhibits and activities designed to educate and entertain children, including the Tribune publishing station, the Math Midway hands-on carnival of numbers, the Into the Woods forest exploration, "All the World's a Stage" and the Providence Kids' Clinic. The museum also offers self-directed and instructed arts and crafts projects and workshops, storytelling activities and a full-service café. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Most activities are free with museum admission. Admission to the museum is $2 for adults; $5 for children. Wednesday, Dec. 13 TOY SCIENCE: An exhibit exploring the scientific principles behind classic and modern toys, will be open through Jan. 15, at ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland. One of the highlights will be a large-scale model train set, and there will be marionettes, pinball machines, magnetic toys and games of chance. Visitors also may create their own toys. The museum will be accepting donations of new toys for "Toys For Tots" through Dec. 13. Bring a toy and receive a 10 percent discount at the museum's new science store. ScienceWorks offers interactive state-of-the-art exhibits, live performances and hands-on exploration for all ages.
