By JONEL ALECCIA Mail Tribune While construction continues on a new St. Vincent de Paul shelter for homeless families in Medford, organizers are working hard to maintain services for those who need help now. Thanks to an agreement with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, as many as 20 people at a time have found a safe, warm and comfortable place to live. During the holiday season, staff at St. Vincent’s try to provide more than mere shelter, especially for the children they serve, says Kathy Morgan, the agency’s vice president for community relations. Advertisement Right now, three children age 5 and younger are living with their families in the temporary lodging in west Medford. There’s a 3-year-old boy and his parents, and another couple who have a girl, age 5, and a boy, age 3. If St. Vincent organizers could make a wish for the holidays, it would be for warm clothes and toys for the kids and certificates for holiday meals for the rest of the residents. Sweatsuits in sizes 4T for the little boys and in size 6 for the girl would be welcome, Morgan says. The children also would like sturdy educational toys made for toddlers. "It’s just something to make them believe in Santa Claus," Morgan says. "Sometimes, Santa doesn’t come to the shelter." Donations of certificates for groceries or meals would help the adults living at the shelter celebrate as well. Contributions can be delivered to St. Vincent de Paul, 2424 N.
