Phoenix, North Valley fare well at swim meet PHOENIX - In a three-team meet on Wednesday, the Phoenix boys and North Valley girls paddled past the competition. The Pirates boys' 107.5 total put them well ahead of the Knights (91.5) and Reedsport (70). Phoenix freshman Justin Heath placed first in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. He teamed with senior Anthony Byrd, junior Jacob Nelson and sophomore Jeff Stone to claim the 200 free relay and joined Byrd, senior Jesse Holcomb and junior Gordon Barker to win the 400 free relay. Prep Bowling The North Medford High girls bowling team won a high school bowling tournament at Indians Lanes in Roseburg on Sunday. The Black Tornado defeated Crater 374-277 and Roseburg 341-291 along the way. Brittany Archer, Nichole Fowler, Liz Osward, Victoria Self, Jennifer Sealy and Kayla Tipler completed for the Tornado. Also making the finals were the South Medford boys, who finished third at Westwood Lanes in Sutherlin, and the Crater boys, who took fourth at Westwood Lanes in Sutherlin. Prep Basketball YREKA 86, EAGLE POINT 59 - At Eagle Point, Yreka made the most of its trip north on Tuesday by blasting the Eagles. Eagle Point (1-2) got 11 points and six steals from Andrew Tree and 10 points and six assists from Tim Martinen. Cole Brown added six points and 10 rebounds.
