Storm could bring snow to passes The Rogue Valley's Thanksgiving visitors may encounter some snow while heading south and east by car this weekend, but those heading north will likely see only rain on their windshields and patches of ice on the freeway. The National Weather Service says a storm front heading into Southern Oregon today will bring rain to the valley floor, but cooling temperatures this afternoon and evening will drop the snow to around the 4,000-foot level. That could result in much as an inch of snow by later today at the Siskiyou Summit on Interstate 5 south of Ashland, and a similar amount of snow at Highway 140's summit near Lake of the Woods. "To say exactly when the rain will turn to snow is almost impossible," says Larry Jacobs, a hydro-meteorological technician at the weather services' Medford office. "The earlier Saturday that (travelers) leave, the better they are." Another "inch or so" of snow is expected at the summits Sunday, Jacobs said. By Sunday, the snow level could drop to about the 2,500-foot level - still above the I-5 passes north of Grants Pass.
