Oregon State Police said troopers responded to the crash at about 11 p.m., joined by medical personnel. Upon arrival, responders found two Harley-Davidson motorcycles that had gone off the road near milepost 44 while traveling in the southbound lanes. Gold Hill resident John Soule III, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. Medford resident Joshua Macdonald Pose, 29, was transported to Providence Medford Medical Center with serious injuries. A preliminary investigation shows both motorcycles left the roadway as they entered a right-hand curve. "Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash," an OSP news release said. Another Gold Hill resident, 33-year-old Mitchel Hensley, who was following the motorcycles but stopped at the scene of the crash, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, OSP reported. OSP, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Rogue River Fire District and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office all responded to the scene.
