Dan Sauro, running for Mayor Larry Parducci’s seat, said this is a critical time because the city’s entering a growth and development phase. "What we don’t want to do is grow without thinking," he said. Parducci, who operates a local business, has reached his term limit for serving in Phoenix. Even though businesses increase the tax base, Sauro said the city needs to be selective about the types and sizes of businesses allowed. "We just want to hold our own and grow quietly and peacefully," he said. Advertisement Another issue for the city is finding a new city hall because the existing building is in bad shape, he said. In addition to the mayor’s seat, the four-year terms for councilmen Hal Burks, Dan Sauro and Curt Georgeson expire in December. According to the recorder’s office, Hal Burks, Terry Helfrich and Steven Schulman have picked up required papers to file as a candidate, in addition to Sauro. To make it on the Nov. 2 ballot, papers must be returned to the city recorder by Aug. 20 if the candidate wants the city recorder to verify signatures. If the county verifies the signatures, the papers must be turned in to the county clerk by Aug. 24.
