ASHLAND CRIME Elderly homeowner flees violent burglar Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 24, 2016 at 5:29 PM Posted Aug. 24, 2016 at 5:29 PM » Social News An 87-year-old Ashland woman is safe after a harrowing few minutes in which a 21-year-old Ashland man strode into her home Friday night, demanded sex acts from her, fled when she refused, then returned to smash a window and search through her personal belongings. Joshua Robert Johnson, of the 2200 block of Siskiyou Boulevard, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after turning himself in to Ashland police, according to a press release from the department. Police allege Johnson entered the woman's home in the 900 block of Clay Street through an open door, encountering the woman almost immediately. He then exposed himself and demanded sex acts, police said. When she refused, he fled. She immediately locked all her doors and windows, police said. But moments later, Johnson allegedly returned and smashed a potted plant through a rear sliding-glass door, cutting himself in the process, according to a police affidavit filed in Jackson County Circuit Court. The homeowner fled to a neighbor's house and called police. Johnson bled inside the house while searching through the woman's belongings but was gone by the time police arrived. While fleeing, he apparently dropped his cellphone, which was later found near the house, according to the affidavit. Police investigated into the early-morning hours and developed several leads pointing to Johnson as the suspect, according to police. Johnson was accompanied by his attorney when he turned himself in, the release said. Johnson was arraigned this afternoon on two counts of first-degree burglary and criminal mischief and private indecency charges, court records show. He remained in the Jackson County Jail late Wednesday on $50,000 bail, set by Circuit Judge Lorenzo Mejia.
