An OSP trooper stopped the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Oregon license plates northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 10 at about 7 a.m. Friday for a traffic violation. During the stop, driver Pedro Lopez Cruz, 20, of California, fled on foot, running east from the freeway, OSP said in a news release. Oregon State Police troopers and drug enforcement detectives tives obtained a search warrant for the Jeep and discovered about 21 pounds of marijuana inside. Authorities reported that they have probable cause to arrest Lopez on felony drug charges and a misdemeanor charge of attempting to elude police. Police suspect Lopez tried to walk from the area or get a ride from a passing motorist. They believe he is headed to Salem. Police describe him as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and baggy blue jeans.
